What makes a place important? Is it the people who lived there? Is it the events that took place? The story of a place, is just as important as its people and its events. Some places have faded from all memory, with no more tangible or physical landmarks to even share their existence. Some places are only marked by monuments to tell their story. While some places have grown so much that their history is no longer recognizable.
To tell the story of a place must include a way of remembering it, whether it be a railroad station, a mill or a church. Maps are full of stories of places that no longer exist. From plat maps, to atlases, and even town plats, they are treasures that help us recall places in St. Charles County’s History that has been forgotten.
