Events

History happens, in a place and with people. However sometimes the events are so large and involve so many people, that they make history in their own right. The stories of cyclones, slavery and wars, encompass the lives of all of our residents. They share the history of the entire county, and are important to all of its’ people. To look at these stories we must also recall what life was like at the time in which the event occurred, and not place today’s standards upon them. The story of our county’s history as the events unfolded, share a time and a way of life that has faded from memory.
